A dashboard for retailers to view their digital flyer engagement metrics

Timeline: June 2018
Role: UI/UX design
Tools: Sketch

Background

This was one of the projects I worked on while interning at Reebee as a UI/UX Designer in Summer of 2018. Reebee is an app that allows users to browse flyers, search for items, and make shopping lists on their mobile devices. The goal of this project was to improve the interface of the retailer-facing analytics dashboard, making it easier for retailers to pick out the key information that they’re looking for.

Design

Below is the first iteration I came up with. Key features include:

  • Store selection (for example, there may be many Walmart stores within a region and the user can select which exact store’s flyer they want to see the metrics for)

  • Week and flyer selection (sometimes stores can have multiple flyers within one week if there are promotional events happening)

  • Users can toggle which graph they want to see: flyer views or item views

  • Option to change graph based on source of views: Reebee = through the Reebee app or website, embed = embedded links on other websites, all = both sources combined

  • When the user hovers over an anchor point on the graph, a box will pop up displaying the exact number of views

  • Summary of metrics at the bottom split into 3 categories: flyer, page, and item

Feedback

The feedback I received from some of my co-workers was that the layout/structure was good and it looked aesthetically pleasing, but “it may be too radical for people who have to look at numbers all day”, and that the dark theme did not align with our “friendly” brand identity.

Re-iteration

Thanks to the feedback I received from my coworkers, I realized the importance of considering the needs and circumstances of the users that I’m designing for—this analytics tool should aid them in their jobs, not make their work days harder.

So, I tweaked the design to make it less straining on the eyes and more aligned with our friendly brand image.
